Episode 10: Mail Order Brides

<p><img src= "https://assets.libsyn.com/secure/show/337586/width_100_PilotLadiesPersonals.jpg" alt="" width="100" height="140" /></p> <p>In this episode the marshal and the madam will explore the mail-order bride world on the frontier.</p> <p>Learn what the term really meant, meet some of the men and women who solicited "object matrimony."</p> <p>Listen as Sherry and Marshall share real advertisements and true stories about love, heart break, and murder!</p> <p>This show's <strong>lagniappe</strong>:</p> <p>Since being a good cook was usually a requirement for a good wife, here's a recipe that would have won the hearts of many a pioneer bachelor.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Chicken Croquettes:</strong></p> <p>Serves 4</p> <p> </p> <p>1 3/4 cup chicken, cooked & minced</p> <p>1 teaspoon parsley, chopped  </p> <p>1/2 teaspoon salt</p> <p>1/4 teaspoon celery salt</p> <p>1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper</p> <p>1 teaspoon lemon juice                                  </p> <p>1/4 teaspoon minced onion</p> <p>1 cup white sauce</p> <p>Dry bread crumbs for coating</p> <p>3 eggs, beaten</p> <p>Oil for frying                                                  </p> <p>                        </p> <p>Mix the first seven ingredients together in a bowl and stir well. Add enough of the white sauce to moisten the mixture, but do not allow it to become too soft. Form the mixture into desired shapes, such as cones, balls, cylinders, etc. Roll the shapes in the bread crumbs first, then in the eggs, and then back in the bread crumbs.</p> <p>Bring oil to a medium high heat in a deep stock pot. Gently place the croquettes in the hot oil and cook until they are golden brown.
