<p>Celebrated throughout the United States since 1865, June 19th is marked by lots of good food with a particular emphasis on the colors red, yellow, and green. Kim & Leigh go behind the scenes to explore and learn more about Juneteenth and its tasty traditions.</p><p>In 2021, the federal government of the United States added a new national holiday on June 19 - Juneteenth National Independence Day (aka Juneteenth). This day, celebrated around the United States since 1865, marks the completed emancipation of enslaved Black and African-African people within the state of Texas and the last of the Confederate States. With its marked colors of red, yellow, and green, Juneteenth food traditions honor African-American foodways while evoking the diverse diaspora of cultures of enslaved people brought to the United States.
