In today’s lesson, we see Israel’s military commander Joab devising a battle plan which includes him heavily leaning on his brother Abishai. We also see that it is not a one-sided relationship, but they truly will have each other’s backs if they come up against an enemy which is more than they can handle on their own. Are you the reliable type? What better way to show the love of Christ than to be there for others in their times of need, covering their backs as they will also be willing to cover yours?

The primary scripture text for this episode is 2 Samuel 10:9-12 with 11 as the focal verse.

11 “If the Arameans are too strong for me, then come over and help me,” Joab told his brother. “And if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I will come and help you.

ADDITIONAL VERSES, etc.:

“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.
