Ep. 144: Beware of Others Speaking on God‘s Behalf

John’s advice in 1st John is as appropriate for you today as it was for his original readers.  “Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.” (1 John 4:1)</p> <p class="p2"> </p> <p class="p1">The primary scripture text for this episode is <a href='https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Samuel+24%3A1-22&version=NLT;ESV'>1 Samuel 24:1-22</a> with  as the focal verses 4-7a:</p> <p class="p2"> </p> <p class="p1">4 “Now’s your opportunity!” David’s men whispered to him. “Today the Lord is telling you, ‘I will certainly put your enemy into your power, to do with as you wish.’” So David crept forward and cut off a piece of the hem of Saul’s robe.</p> <p class="p1">5 But then David’s conscience began bothering him because he had cut Saul’s robe. 6 He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this to my lord the king.
