<p>The Couch Time Podcast</p> <p><strong>EP 116: YouTube and Your Student</strong></p> <p><br></p> <p>Today on The Couch Time Podcast Ryan and Josh talk about THE most popular internet site/app for students: YouTube!</p> <p><br></p> <p><strong>SHOW NOTES</strong></p> <p>Things parents can do to allow students to have freedom and enjoy YouTube while also keeping them safe and not wasting too much time.&nbsp;</p> <p>Here are 10 quick things you can do…</p> <p><br></p> <p>*Important point: It's hard to have absolute control/monitoring on YouTube.</p> <p>--&gt; Kids can switch accounts, switch browsers</p> <p><br></p> <p>1. Talk and watch - obvious but important. Talk to your kids and watch with them. The thing about YouTube is that most people and kids like to share.</p> <p>2. Turn on restricted mode - hides comments, filters some bad content (though not all of it)</p> <p>3. Subscriptions are helpful - gives you a focused list instead of a never ending worm hole of watching.</p> <p>4. Turn off auto play.</p> <p>5. Delete app from phone.</p> <p>6. I recommend no devices in bedroom at night for students.</p> <p><br></p> <p><br></p> <p>How do we redeem YouTube?</p> <p>1. There are some AWESOME channels out there!</p> <p>2. Watch things together on youtube - disc golf, civil war, documentaries...</p> <p>3. YouTube is FUN and thats good! YouTube can be funny and thats good - can be a great place to learn.&nbsp;</p> <p>4.
