Description

2021. 03. 18 | The things of this world never bring satisfaction and are never enough. Seeing this, and that one must leave behind everything at death, one seeks a wealth and happiness that does not decay. (Notes on the translation: “Government monk” or “monk from the government” refers to Venerable Ratthapala, a foremost disciple of the Buddha (his story seen in Majjhima Nikaya 82; he was the son of a wealthy family and not in the government). “The world is an element of craving” could be more accurately rendered as “the world is a slave to craving”, which is one of the four Dhamma summaries stated by Ven. Ratthapala in MN 82. (The four are: 1) The world is swept away and cannot endure. 2) The world is without shelter or protector. 3) The world is ownerless; one leaves everything behind. 4) The world is not enough, cannot reach satisfaction or fullness, and is a slave to craving.) (Sutta translation partly based on the translation of Ajahn Thanissaro) ❂ JOIN US DAILY ON ZOOM ❂ Join Ajahn Anan and the Wat Marp Jan Community online for daily chanting, meditation, and a Dhamma talk.
