Description
An Ennis travel counsellor believes people purchasing holiday packages are now getting a "better quality product" than in the past. It comes as new data shows the average cost of a holiday package to the consumer has risen by over 60% in the last year. As the number of people going on foreign holidays has returned to pre-Covid levels, the level of demand is evidently pushing prices up. The CSO's most recently published Consumer Price Index reveals the average price of a holiday package has risen by a staggering 65% from July 2022 to last month. Even between June and July of this year, the price rose by 14.8%. while the cost of flights is up by 14.3% It also appears to be getting more expensive to holiday in Ireland, with the cost of accommodation services such as hotels and guesthouses up 6.2% while the cost of eating out in a restaurant is up 6.4%. While holidayers are undoubtedly feeling the pinch, Ennis travel counsellor Gearoid Mannion argues that people now get more included in the price of a holiday package than before. While rising costs usually deter people from availing of particular services, it seems there is no sign of the number of people travelling abroad abating. Ollie Gleeson of Ollie Gleeson Tours says that after being prevented from holidaying outside of the country during the pandemic, people now have an itch to see the world.
