Eating Disorders - Finding the Fullness

Description

Whew...this can be a touchy subject among any group, musicians or not, and in this episode of the Tuned and Strong podcast we get raw and real about our own different experiences with it.

Many times, eating disorders can find their roots in emotional trauma. Angela's experience with binge eating disorder boiled down to feeling trapped in her circumstances - Both Jen and Angela can relate their circumstances to feeling a lack of control and a lack of structure. These things can manifest as eating disorders because we are seeking to either find control through controlling weight or that lack of control can manifest as a binge. We also cover how we got out of it: being present, giving yourself permission and sitting with reality, among other things.

If you have other resources you can add to this, please share!

Resources we mentioned:

Counseling/therapy - finding a counselor who specializes in EMDR

Books by Geneen Roth:

1) Breaking Free From Emotional (or Compulsive) Eating

2) Feeding the Hungry Heart

3) Women, Food and God

4) When Food is Love: Exploring the Relationship between Eating and Intimacy

5) Appetites: On the Search for True Nourishment

6) Take Back Your Life: Ending Your Obsession with Food

Book: French Women Don't Get Fat

References:

Our Healthy Habit Series, #1 about Nutrition (complete with pictures of the figure competition I referenced - yes, next to last, girl next to me placed first https://musicstrong.com/healthyhabits1/)

John Meadows - Multi-Olympia competito
