Description

Clare's Fianna Fáil Senator claims he will not be standing for his party in the upcoming general election, unless funding applications for wastewater infrastructure in Cooraclare and Broadford receive immediate approval. Last year both villages were put forward by the local authority as part of a €50m government pilot scheme to connect unsewered rural settlements to treatment plants. Although the Department of Local Government completed an independent evaluation of all potential projects in September, the announcement which is overdue since January has yet to be made. Mountshannon Fianna Fáil Senator Timmy Dooley says both he and the communities concerned cannot wait any longer.
