Do You Really Love It?

<p>In this next episode Coach Cathcart discusses the physical and emotional work that goes into being a high-level ball player. Whether it's 8u, high school varsity level, or college level, there's different sacrifices and different amounts of work that must be put in. After 20 years of coaching, we're seeing a rise in kids playing but a fall in the amount of kids who are actually there for their love of the game, especially in youth levels. Parents individualize training, showcases, and tournaments every weekend has created undue pressure on these young kids. Before they ever get a chance to truly fall in love with the game, the expectations are unrealistic. <br> Very few players love and understand the grind of what it takes to be elite. Many think that if they go to certain showcases, play in bigger tournaments, or on certain teams, they will be handed scholarships. This is a false narrative.
