Description

It started with an ultimatum, and it's ending in a new gas-fired power plant. The Government is making the case for the new project at Kurri Kurri, in the NSW Hunter region. In fact, they're so sold on the idea, they're stumping up $600 million to build it. It was supposed to replace the Liddell coal-fired power station when it closes in two years, but many voices in the energy industry claim other kinds of power will easily fill that need. The Government on the other hand is promising a new gas plant will ensure a more reliable and cheap source of power. So does Australia really need a new gas fired power station, and is it a good deal for taxpayers? Featured: David Speers, Host, ABC Insiders
