Description
The inspiration behind this month's episode of Dedication was a feeling of renewal; a range of emotions converge, creating a sense of equilibrium. The Herbie Mann track which opens up is a gem which features a young Roy Ayers. Vibist Walt Dickerson also appears with Sun Ra, both displaying an incredible feel for space and melodic impressions. Elsewhere the likes of Jackie McLean, Kenny Garrett & Woody Shaw, and Sonny Fortune make sharp yet graceful statements highlighting the cultural bedrock Afro-Americans have descended from in all of its universality . I think you'll find the listening similar to a breath of fresh air - I did. One which was well needed. Peace be unto you all! -Bruce Phillips *** Tracklisting: Herbie Mann - If I Were A Carpenter Louis Smith Quintet - Prancin’ Walt Dickerson & Sun Ra - Astro Tootie Heath - Kamili Sonny Fortune - The Awakening Jackie McLean & The Cosmic Brotherhood - New York Calling Kenny Garrett Quintet - For Openers Isao Suzuki Quartet Plus 1 - Blue City
