Description

Tonight’s guest is former journalist and hockey author D’arcy Jenish. D’Arcy hales from Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and grew up playing midget, juvenile, and Junior B hockey. Later on he became a writer for the prestigious Maclean’s magazine.

Living by the maxim that a good book always makes money, though not necessarily for the author. D’arcy has written ten books dealing not only with hockey with the exploration of the North American West, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and late 20thcentury Canadian politics.

In 2009 D’Arcy wrote “The Montreal Canadiens: 100 years of Glory”, a critically acclaimed history of the Montreal Canadiens and, in my opinion, a sparkling, first-rate history of the NHL’s oldest franchise.

Tonight we will be discussing the 50th anniversary of the Montreal Canadiens 1971 Stanley Cup victory, a surprise victory which saw glorious final performances by veterans Jean Beliveau and John Ferguson combined with a surprising brilliantly goal-tending performance by rookie Ken Dryden.
