Very hungry caterpillaring? [That night he had a stomach ache!]

We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk

Have you ever read the story of the very hungry caterpillar?

The 1969 kid’s book by Eric Carle.

It follows a caterpillar.

Obvs.

Who eats very little in the week – a few bits of fruit.

Then does this on Saturday:

On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake
One ice-cream cone
One pickle
One slice of Swiss cheese
One slice of salami
One lollipop
One piece of cherry pie
One sausage
One cupcake
And one slice of watermelon
That night he had a stomach ache!
The next day was Sunday again
The caterpillar ate through one nice leaf, and after that he felt better.
Now he wasn’t hungry anymore–and he wasn’t a little caterpillar anymore
He was a big fat caterpillar

I’m sure we’ve all been there.

Eat relatively little in the week and loads and the weekend.

I know I have.

And it’s fine.

To a point.

There won’t be many people out there who don’t eat a little more at the weekend.

And if we can create an average of those 7 days that takes us in the direction we want to go in, then that’s cool.

If the average takes us in the wrong direction………

If it makes us the equivalent of “a big fat caterpillar” and if it gives us stomach ache (other undesirable side effects are available)……….

It’s maybe worth questioning.

Could we enjoy the weekend 97% as much by dropping that by, say, a third?

Could we adjust the week a bit more to bring the average down?

Could we question why we feel the need to increase intake that much at the weekend?

Or, more likely, a combination of the three?

Much love,

Jon ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ Hall
