Thick and fast? [My mate Jamie]

We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk

In the 90s there was a TV advert.

There were loads, obviously.

But I’m thinking of a particular one.

I think it was for a paper towel or something similar.

Google hasn’t helped me find what I’m thinking of.

It’s tag line was that it “Thick and fast”.

So we started calling my mate Jamie whatever that product was called.

Because he was a good sprinter.

And we were suggesting he wasn’t very bright (he was / is – he works for the UN in Switzerland now).

But that’s your mates for you – especially when you’re a teenager.

Another word for thick is, of course, dense.

Dense and fast.

What a lot of foods can be.

The most convenient meals / foods are often dense and fast.

High calorie density.

Quick to get and to eat.

We can wolf down 300 calories of a chocolate bar in seconds.

300 calories of veg takes a while to cook and another while to eat.

So it’s understandable why, with our busy lives, we’re tempted by those quick, energy dense and, often, tastier foods.

And put off by those more filling, but more time consuming options.

We get it.

So………

What’s the answer?

A mixture perhaps?

And a bit of planning ahead, maybe?

Perhaps breakfast and tea are lower average calorie density, bigger meals?

When we, maybe, have a little bit more time?

Lunch still a higher density, quicker option?

Potentially putting in that little bit of time ahead of time.

Cooking extra when we’re already cooking?

Getting some helpful options in on the weekly big shop?

No right or wrong.

www.myrise.co.uk/density might help us pick a few more filling options.</p
