<p>The day the music died? [American Pie]</p> <p><br> <br> We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at <a href="http://www.myrise.co.uk/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.myrise.co.uk</a></p> <p><br></p> <p>In verse six of ‘We didn’t start the riot’, it’s 1959 and there’s a reference to Buddy Holly</p> <p>Referring to the plane crash in which Holly, and fellow musicians Richie Valens and The Big Bopper died.</p> <p>“The day the music died” from the song American Pie (one of my nephew’s favourite songs at the moment – I often catch him humming it).</p> <p>Music, of course, didn’t die that day.</p> <p>It carried on largely unaffected.</p> <p>A quick Google tells me that record sales (which had increased from £279 million to £603 million in the UK between 1955 and 1959) continued to sky rocket throughout the 60s.</p> <p>A lot of things aren’t actually dead when we describe them as such.</p> <p>Like our ways of eating.</p> <p>We have an intention to eat a certain way.</p> <p>Often a very woolly one at best.</p> <p>“I’m going to be good” perhaps.</p> <p>And the second we have some food or drink that we’ve classed as being somewhat ‘demonised’, we decide that time is over.</p> <p>We’ve maybe “failed”.</p> <p>It’s been “ruined”.</p> <p>It’s a “write off”.</p> <p>The “diet” is dead for now.</p> <p>And we use that as a justification to eat and drink much more.</p> <p>As always, we’re all grown ups.</p> <p>We can eat, drink and do whatever we like.</p> <p>Who would we be to tell you otherwise.</p> <p>But……..</p> <p>We could maybe question these (actually nonsensical) ways of describing how we’re eating……..</p> <p>If it isn’t serving us well?</p> <p><br></p> <p>Much love,</p> <p>Jon ‘Stiffler’ Hall</p>
