It's the "force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other" [Less boring than it sounds]

We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk

I would ask if you knew what the definition of ‘friction’ is.

But I know I’ve given it you in the title.

“the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and material elements sliding against each other”

Even if you wouldn’t have said it quite like that, I’m sure you’d have said something similar.

We’re all aware of friction operating in our everyday life.

Our shoes against the floor.

Our bare arm against a rough wall.

Car tyres against tarmac.

And so on.

But there’s probably a bigger source of friction in our lives that we’re not aware of.

That caused by these two things rubbing up against each other;

1- How we feel things should be…….

And…….

2 – Reality!

The energy we waste by comparing the world we see and the blueprint we have in our head of what it should look like.

Our bodies.

Our life in general.

What other people do, think and say.

Sometimes we can change these things.

Sometimes we can’t.

There’s a phrase I like.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change……..

The courage to change what I can………

And the wisdom to know the difference.

Accepting the things we can’t (or are unwilling to) change is liberating.

It’s not a lowering of standards as we might be telling ourselves it is.

A raising, if any.

All that wasted energy from that ‘friction’ can be directed elsewhere.

We change more of the things we can.

By accepting those that we can’t.

Much love,

Jon ‘May the Force be with you’ Hall
