She also discusses how students have had to experience anti-Chinese stigma and navigate the mixed messages from their home country, parents, school administrators, and their country of residence.</span></p> <p><span class="style-scope yt-formatted-string" dir="auto">Dr. Ma is an associate professor of sociology, a senior research associate at the Center for Policy Research, and director of Asian/Asian American studies at Syracuse University. A specialist in education and migration, Dr. Ma's latest book is, "Ambitious and Anxious: How Chinese Undergraduates Succeed and Struggle in American Higher Education" (Columbia University Press 2019).</span></p>
