A Clarecastle councillor has warned that just because Ennis isn't at risk of major flooding now, it doesn't mean this will be the case forever. At this month's meeting of the Ennis Municipal District, Senior Executive Engineer Eamon O'Dea stated that flooding "as witnessed in Midleton is unlikely to occur" in the county town due to its flood protection scheme and tidal barrage. However, fears have been expressed that similar events could unfold in Ennis's Abbey Street and Parnell Street car parks, both of which are designated for mixed-use developments under Ennis 2040. Clarecastle Fianna Fáil Councillor Tom O'Callaghan says it's crucial the county town prepares for future rising tides.
