Cold calling isn’t pleasurable to most people, but what I’ve learned is that you have to learn to make it fun. The thing to remember when cold calling is that you’re not trying to sell stuff. You’re making a phone call to get approval for a face-to-face meeting. Going into cold calling, you have to be comfortable with hearing no. You have to get your “no” reps in and understand that every time you get a “no,” you’re that much closer to getting a yes. I see or hear people make a mistake by bombarding callers with features and benefits right out of the gate. But the best thing that always works, in my opinion, is to have a genuine conversation to understand what kind of industry, who you’re talking to, and what issues you can help solve. That is how you get in front of them.
