Clare Teacher Rep Expects Future Retention Crisis

A Clare teachers' representative says new graduates won't stay in Ireland if they can't get full hour contracts. The Teachers' Union of Ireland has called on the Department of Education to allow schools to employ teachers on a full-time basis after the current October deadline. A recent TUI survey found that 40% of teachers do not believe they will be in the profession in 10 years’ time. St Michael's Kilmihill Teacher, Kate Hehir, says lack of career progression opportunities is depleting the country's pool of qualified educators.
