Description
A Clare TD claims thousands of carers are being let down by the unfair eligibility criteria of the disabled drivers and passengers support scheme. Successful applicants can receive up to €1,446 per annum to put towards fuel costs, however only family members of the dependent and those bearing a primary medical certificate can avail of the grant. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has this week pledged to examine the case of a Kilkee carer who despite living with and providing daily transport to a disabled man, cannot access any support funding. Kilrush Independent Deputy Violet Anne Wynne who raised the matter believes the policy is not fit for purpose.
