Description
A West Clare Oireachtas member is calling on the government to put an end to flooding issues on the Ennis to Limerick railway line once and for all. A section of the line in Ballycar near Newmarket-on-Fergus has experienced persistent drainage issues over a number of years and the route has been temporarily closed on a number of occasions due to the Ballycar section being deemed impassable. Following recent consultation with the Office of Public Works, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Clare County Council, Iarnród Éireann has concluded that the sum of €16.7m is required to develop a technically feasible drainage solution. Addressing the Seanad, Ennistymon Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway says people who have paid for a train ticket shouldn't have to take contingency buses when flooding arises.
