Clare Senator Claims Current Housing Adaption Grants Are No Help To Older People

Clare’s Fine Gael Senator is calling on the government to increase funding for local authorities administering the housing adpation grant. Although, the fund which enables disabled and older people to carry out out remedial works in the home is capped at €30,000, county councils can only dish out the allocation available to them, regardless of the costs. Furthermore the average price of rebuilding a home here has jumped by 12% in the last year. Speaking at the Seanad this week, Ennistymon Senator Martin Conway says top-ups should be provided for the increasing costs.
