Description
The Clare Beef Plan Chair says 'annihilating herds' is not a sustainable approach to reducing farm emissions. An Department of Agriculture briefing document obtained by the Farming Department has detailed government proposals to cull 65,000 cattle a year for the next three years in a bid to meet climate targets. Farmers who chose to opt in to the voluntary dairy reduction scheme would receive a €3,000 per cow compensation payment. However Quilty farmer, Joseph Woulfe claims the initiative would only serve to decimate a critical income stream for farm families.
