Clare Aontú Rep Calls For Urgent Reform Of Teacher Qualification Process
2freshles
Description
Clare's Aontú Representative is calling for urgent qualification reforms to address the teacher recruitment crisis. It comes as the number of CAO applications for teaching courses has fallen by 9% in the latest year, while a Red C Poll in April found that 75% of Secondary Schools received no expressions of interest for vacancies. The two year Primary Masters in Education Programme can cost up to €6,000 per annum at Irish third level institutions, while the TUI claim halving the course duration could provide an additional 2,400 teaching staff. Aontú MidWest PRO and Vice Principal at St.Munchin's College Eric Nelligan believes there are too many prohibiting factors.
