Claims Development On Clare's West Coast "Hamstrung" By Restrictions

A member of Clare's Economic Development Committee claims development along the county's west coast is "hamstrung" by restrictions. As Clare County Council is a designated Coastal Planning Authority, any developments in the county's nearshore area such as works to piers and harbors or support infrastructure for servicing the offshore wind industry must seek Coastal Planning Authority approval. In addition, Clare has three "regional seascape character areas" as identified by the Regional Seascape Character Assessment for Ireland 2020, which means any developments along the coast must take these character areas into consideration. Sixmilebridge Independent Councillor PJ Ryan believes excessive red type is hindering planning and construction along the county's coastline.
