Description

It's claimed a lack of vital infrastructure will lead to Clare's top tourist attraction suffering reputational damage. It follows the publication of the Cliffs of Moher 2040 Strategy Preliminary Draft document which outlines a plan for the attraction that is projected to generate a tourism spend of €36m while creating over 300 jobs. The report highlights a number of aspects to be improved on, such as the paths along the cliff-edge, which are deemed a "major safety hazard" as well as the catering facilities which are "consistently the worst rated element" of the attraction "due to long queues, poor signage and limited menu choice". However, Lisdoonvarna Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy believes a priority of the strategy should be the enhancement of infrastructure such as wastewater treatment facilities, footpaths and roads in satellite towns and villages.
