Chp. 6: The Melody of His Heart

For further context, listen/read <a href="https://thestory.substack.com/p/chp-5-meeting-papa">Meeting Papa</a>.<br/><br/>Take another deep breath.<br/><br/>Let us begin.<br/><br/>Chapter 6: The Melody of His Heart<br/><br/>I look back into Papa's eyes, and he squeezes me again, as though he is exuberant by my presence. He sits down on a large but smooth rock and cradles me. Just as a mother would while cuddling her child, he seems to be enjoying this moment.<br/><br/>With my ear close to his chest, I can hear the gentle thump of his heartbeat, and I am immensely comforted. Simultaneously, conviction rises in the pit of my stomach. I begin to remember my own sin and shame. The more affection he lavishes me with, the more I recognize how totally unworthy I am of it.<br/><br/>He begins rocking slowly side to side. Realizing how tired I feel, I allow my body to relax. Once again I am overcome by a strong feeling of comfort mixed with sorrow for my sin. <br/><br/>I shift my focus and listen to his heart. It isn't the sound of a normal heartbeat. Playing a melody that is a mix between a steady drumbeat with a lullaby and an indescribably choir, it is the most magnificent song I've ever heard. Listening to it makes me want to be as close to him as possible. <br/><br/>Cradling me, he leans in and whispers my name and says,&#16
