Brian interviews Christian Szpilfogel. Christian is the founder and Chief investment officer of a private investment firm in Ottawa with a focus on real estate and start-up technology firms. He is an advocate for balanced rental housing policy at various levels of government including speaking as a witness at the parliamentary committee on rental housing (HUMA) in June of this year where he identified the following key causes:<ul><li>The condominium act of 1967</li></ul><br /><ul><li>The federal tax reforms of 1972</li></ul><br /><ul><li>Rent Control of 1975 (which was aggravated by the tax reforms of 1972)</li></ul><br /><br />The result was vacancy rates falling from 6% before 1972 to about 2% from 1975 onwards.<br /><br />We discuss why there is so little, why so expensive, what the government mistakes for us here, and what we desperately need to do to solve this situation.<br /><br />
