<p>Dr. Mitchell reminds us of the 3 things that are pictured here in the book of Jonah which are the people of Israel, the Lord Jesus, and the gospel. These are presented in the form of a type. A “type” is a mold, an example or pattern. Here Jonah becomes a type, both, of Christ and the nation of Israel as Dr. Mitchell explains. </p><p> Jonah, swallowed by the great fish, brought salvation to the gentile sailors. He becomes a type of Jesus’ death which brought salvation to the gentiles who believe in and trust Christ. </p><p> Our Lord makes mention of this in Matthew 12:39-41 where Jonah is a sign to the Jews of the period of time the savior would be in the heart of the earth. </p><p> Dr. Mitchell shows Jesus Christ in Jonah.
