Paul is using the picture of a virgin bride to explain how believers (the church) should be pure and faithful to Christ: Spiritual purity – Being a “virgin for the Lord” does not necessarily mean physical virginity here, but spiritual faithfulness. It means staying away from sin, false teachings, and worldly corruption. Faithfulness to Christ – Just like a bride keeps herself only for her husband, believers are called to remain loyal to Christ alone, not mixing their devotion with idols, false gods, or sinful desires. Holiness and devotion – Paul’s desire was to present the church in Corinth to Christ as a holy, pure, and devoted bride, ready for the spiritual marriage feast (which is the union with Christ at His coming). So, being a virgin for the Lord means living in spiritual purity, holiness, and total devotion to Christ, without being led astray by the world or false teachings.
