August 12, 2021

Award versus reward. Who’s getting what and why? Nobody likes the feeling of being part of a losing team. So people are endlessly given awards for just showing up. Look at what they’re doing to get people back to work! If you come with us we’ll give you _____. With so many offers available it’s difficult to like your job. Just go someplace else because the grass seems to be greener on that side of the fence. When it doesn’t work out. That’s ok! Just go get another job! Then another! Award versus reward. Acknowledging a person’s performance doesn’t require a trophy. There are many times the human compliment totally drives me insane. The way it’s said eventually means nothing. My pet peeve is, “I appreciate you.” Call a spade a spade. It’s not about having an appreciation. It’s meeting the expectation. Exceeding so that anyone with a decision making ability can keep their distance. Rewarding a person for something that’s not connected to a true accomplishment sells the soul of those making a pat on the back feel like a super bowl victory. Yes! The human needs to experience recognition. When you reward or award it wrong then the jokes on the receiver.
--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/arroe-collins/support
