<p>We tend to use 'atonement' and 'forgiveness' synonymously, but we shouldn't. The atoning work of Christ provides forgiveness for believers, but there is another way for sins to be atoned. "Jacob" experienced the other way - which is the opposite of forgiveness.</p>
