Description

I collect quotes like some people collect shells at the sea shore. Meaningful quotes are actually very much like sea shells. For small things can be utterly beautiful, and they usually take a great deal of life to create. So, like a shell, when a special quote catches my attention I’ll pick it up and pop it in my pocket so I can ponder and appreciate it later. And like a beautiful shell, after appreciating it the even greater joy is to give it away. To share it with someone else.

Well, this morning I noticed my jar of quotes is getting quite full and so its time to give some of them away. And of course, like any meaningful thing, you really can’t give it away because it has already become a part of you. But you can share. And so, here are a few short pithy quotes for you to ponder. If I don’t cite the source it’s because I don’t know it. There’s no particular theme. No particular order. No underlying message. Just a handful of shells from my jar. Enjoy.

“The man who knows everything can learn nothing.”

“The eye is a miracle. Small enough to fit into your small head but big enough the whole world can fit inside it.” — Rumi

“The best way to prepare for the future is to make the most of the present.”

“Humans have always been better at inventing tools than using them wisely”. - Yuval Noah Harari

“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” – Joseph Campbell

“The gift of one’s full attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity.” — Simone Weil

“For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.”

― H. L. Mencken

“Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break some rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here.” —Neil Gaiman

“A man on foot, on horseback or on a bicycle will see more, feel more, enjoy more in one mile than the motorized tourist ca
