On July 12 NASA will release the first science data – including the first science-quality images - from the $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope. The images are sure to be stunning, and guaranteed to make headlines around the world. But scientists, and deep learning, are already hard at work wringing insights from the torrent of data this one-of-a-kind scientific instrument will produce.
