Acts 8:5-8 - Prog 29

Luke now brings into focus another one of the 7 men appointed as a deacon of the church in Jerusalem by the name of Philip. He too along with Stephen were ministering. Philip, the evangelist, was a family man and a deacon who knew the word of God. But with the church now having been scattered, Philip too was proclaiming Christ in Samaria. While he preached, a man named Simon, also believed. Meanwhile, Peter and John came to the city of Samaria to pray for the new believers and to bestow the Holy Spirit. This man Simon wanted to pay money to receive the same authority to bestow this power. Peter seeing through him, soundly rejected the offer and gravely admonished Simon to repent from that very thought.
