Description

We’re in the book of Acts, chapter 5 beginning in verse 29. The apostles, once again are brought before the council in Jerusalem for teaching in the name of Jesus. Jesus is ever the focus of the teaching. They responded, “we must obey God rather than men”. Notice, this ‘obedience to God rather than to men’ is in the context of unbelieving religious authorities rather than civil disobedience to the government of Rome. The obedience to God HERE is in opposition to authoritarian religious leaders who don’t believe in the living God to raise the the dead. Gamaliel, a highly respected rabbi of the time, gave very wise counsel to these Sadducees. Leave these men alone. If this movement is of God, you will not be able to thwart it. And they didn’t.
