Description

The disciples, Peter & John, released from prison, go to their friends and hold a prayer meeting. They address the Lord as the creator and quote verses from Ps. 2. This fits exactly their context in Jerusalem. They make supplication to the Lord to look upon the persecution and to give them boldness to witness to the truth of the resurrection of Jesus. And, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, they did. Dr. Mitchell points out that they did not pray to be filled with the Spirit, but rather that they might speak the Word with boldness. The Christians, during persecution, were sharing with one another, as each had a need, vs.32. This verse has been erroneously used to support socialism and communism. First of all, note, this sharing was voluntary, and only between believers and it was not governmentally mandated.
