Acts 17:1-9 - Prog 51

Paul leaves Philippi and heads south to Thessalonica. He spent 3 sabbaths at their synagogue, reasoning from the scripture and proving that the Christ is this Jesus whom Paul preaches. From the O.T. scriptures he shows that the Messiah had to die and rise again from the dead. Paul declared that this Jesus is that Messiah. This brings out the opposition from the unbelieving Jews. They were jealous of the great many who believed this gospel of God. Forming a mob, they proceeded to falsely accuse the apostles of acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar thus pitting Jesus, God’s King and His heavenly kingdom against Caesar, Rome’s king and their worldly kingdom. In John 18:36, Jesus made it quite clear that His kingdom is not from this world.
