Now anyone who places his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as personal Saviour from sin, will receive the forgiveness of sins, and the wrath of God will never again come down upon that one because Christ bore God's wrath on that believer's behalf. Why? Because Christ satisfied the holy, righteous demands of God against sin. Now, through the death of Christ, a holy God and sinful men can meet (be reconciled) and God can have fellowship with men. Never let us forget, God’s wrath comes from His holy character and is thus a just anger. His wrath is a response to ungodly or unrighteous actions. God’s wrath is His reply to violations of His law and the denial of His Lordship. Rejecting God as Redeemer and Creator, brings about His divine wrath! In both testaments, the teaching of Scripture is clear that God is justly angry at sin and evil. That He expresses His wrath against sin and sinners is also the consistent teaching of the Bible. Believers are those who do not have the wrath of God abiding on them, and the reason is because Jesus took that wrath on the cross, He absorbed the curse. This is PROPITIATION; not only the forgiveness of sin, but forgiveness because God’s wrath is satisfied. The close link between sin and God’s wrath, demonstrates that when God forgives sin, it is because of an offering that satisfies His just wrath against sin. To deny this is part of propitiation, is to go against the witness of both testaments. The whole counsel of God includes some things that are difficult to hear—the fact that we are dead in sin and deserving of God’s wrath (Ephesians 2:1–3) coupled with the fact that we cannot save ourselves through works of the Law (Ephesians 2:8–9)!
