In 1 Timothy 2:1-4 we see a charge given to Christians to pray for all men in general, and particularly for all in authority &#8212; that we should make&#160;supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks.<br/><br/>We are called to pray, instructed to pray, taught what and how to pray. <br/><br/>Today as we pray for our nations government (all in civil authority) we will read through portions of Matthew Henry&#8217;s commentary for further insight on and pray from the passage.<br/><br/>Prayer Insights &#8230; Praying with C.H. Spurgeon <br/><br/>We have learned several lessons from the Prince of Preachers regarding prayer. And here is one of his congregational prayers. Preacher and scholar Dr. John Cairns writes: &#8220;We felt that he was only doing before the multitude what he was habituated to do in private. Prayer was the instinct of his soul and the atmosphere of his life. It was his &#8220;vital breath&#8221; and &#8220;native air.&#8221; <br/><br/>We cannot hear his voice, but can pray these printed words with Spurgeon:<br/><br/>Glorious Liberty<br/><br/>OUR Father, we bless Thy name that we can say from the bottom of our hearts, &#8220;Abba, Father.&#8221; It is the chief joy of our lives that we have become the children of God by faith which is in Christ Jesus and we can in the deep calm of our spirit say, &#8220;Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth as in heaven.&#8221;<br/><br/>Lord, we thank Thee for the liberty which comes to our emancipated spirit through the adoption which Thou hast made us to enjoy. When we were in servitude the chains were heavy, for we could not keep Thy law. There was an inward spirit of rebellion. When the commandment came, it irritated our corrupt nature and sin revived and we died.<br/><br/>Even when we had some strivings after better things, yet the power that was in us lusted into evil, and the spirit of the Hagarene was upon us.
