<p>Hello to you listening in <a href="https://www.glenview.il.us/about/Pages/Visit.aspx" target="_blank">Glenview, Illinois</a>!</p><p>Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey.</p><p>The Norwegian explorer Erling Kagge was the first person to walk to the South Pole - alone. <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36243813-silence" target="_blank">He knows silence</a>. Kagge says, “<i>[silence] ... is a quality - something exclusive, luxurious and a key that can unlock new ways of thinking. It can be your best friend</i>.” </p><p>I had walked a few miles along Mutiny Bay, the tide was moving out, the wind was rushing down <a href="https://admiralscove.org/admiraltyinlet.htm" target="_blank">Admiralty Inlet</a> from the North, the branches of pines trees bent and brushed against each other. You would think there was no silence here. But finding an old driftwood log I stretched out on my back and watched a pair of eagles playing tag against the backdrop of a blue blue sky. I felt very present in that precious moment. The future didn’t exist - the past didn’t matter - it was just me, the present, the eagles, and silence.
