Description

Hello to you in Burlington, Washington!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

I went trekking in Trillium Woods the other day to get a reprieve from the hectic hurly burly that’s become my island what with the many, many post-COVID tourists visiting from away.

As I walked along the dirt and grass path with native blackberries beginning to ripen in the sun I came upon a threesome strolling along, an elderly couple and a younger woman. Perhaps grandparents and their granddaughter? I could hear bits of conversation about summers past until the older gentleman turned and beckoned me to walk ahead. “We’re just rambling and reminiscing,” he said.

What a nice word: Reminisce. To remember. I remember that my dad was fond of quoting this line: “Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” [Henry James]

This is the place to thrive together.
