60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday: What Do You Get When You Open the Unwanted Gift?

<p>Hello to you listening in <a href="https://visitproseccoitaly.com/things-to-do-in-treviso-italy/" target="_blank">Treviso, Italy</a>!</p><p>Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.</p><p>I can count on one hand the number of gifts my grandmother chose to accept from her 7 grandchildren. Something was always wrong; or, if not wrong then just not right. She’d had a very tough life and maybe the idea of being shown expressions of love was too much for her, felt foreign, perhaps scary.</p><p>I was thinking of her the other day in a moment of reverie recalling gifts I’ve received, an overwhelming abundance of gifts, the ones I couldn’t wait to unwrap. Gifts of prosperity, health, purpose, friendship, adventure, support, and more.</p><p>And then there were the gifts of disappointment, loss, betrayal, failure, grief, and defeat. Gifts I preferred to “Return to Sender - Address Unknown” but there they were. Unwrap them I did. Over time. Not all at once. Some took years as I picked away at the tattered, faded ribbons.</p><p>What did I get?
