60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: Lost Everything? Time to Go for a Walk!

<p>Hello to you listening in <a href="https://www.laconianh.gov/" target="_blank">Laconia, New Hampshire</a>!</p><p>Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga!</p><p>Imagine this: you are 88 years old, in poor health, your husband and best friend have died leaving you quite alone but for a son who lives some distance away. Now what?</p><p>You go for a walk to clean up politics. My friend <a href="http://grannyd.org/democracy/" target="_blank">Doris “Granny D” Haddock</a> started walking across America in her 89th year.  It took her 14 months to walk 3,200 miles from Los Angeles, California to Washington D.C. By the time she arrived in Cumberland, Maryland the biggest snowstorm in 4 years shut everything down so she sent to New Hampshire for her cross-country skies and skied all the way to the capitol steps where she met then Senator John McCain. Granny D had walked to bring attention to the <a href="https://cphcmp.smu.edu/2004election/mccain-feingold/" target="_blank">McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Bill</a>.  </p><p>Yes, these are troubling and troublesome times. While times have always been so Granny D saw opportunity: </p><p>“<i>Aren't we privileged to live in a time when everything is at stake, and when our efforts make a difference in the eternal contest between the forces of light and shadow, between togetherness and division, between justice and exploitation? Oh, be joyful that you are a warrior in this great time! Will we rise to this battle? If so, we cannot lose, for rising up to it is our victory.
