Mental illness and how to describe a person living with a mental illness Definition - condition which causes a disorder in a person's behavior or way of thinking. -mood -behavior -thought processes Most common mental illnesses in Africa are depression, schizophrenia and anxiety. Definitions of Depression, Schizophrenia and Anxiety disorder. Common causes of these mental illnesses. Depression - abuse, trauma, serious illness and certain medications. Schizophrenia - unknown causes however there is evidence of genetic, psychological and environmental factors. Anxiety disorder - usually linked with an underlying medical illness.
