29.14: 1 Kings 7: How Colossal Should a Church or Palace be for God or a King?

<p>Sparing no expense. That’s the theme of today’s chapter as Solomon not &nbsp;only finishes the temple decorating, but builds himself a palace. It &nbsp;took him 7 years to build the temple and 13 years to build his palace. &nbsp;This reminded me of a TV show back in the mid 80s – early 90s, “<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifestyles_of_the_Rich_and_Famous" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous</a>“. &nbsp;It featured Robin Leach traveling all over the world touring mansions &nbsp;and living the high life of the rich and famous. That is where we’re &nbsp;going with Solomon’s story.</p> <p>In the 80s, I got to travel around Italy and I visited cathedrals in &nbsp;every city. For me, the most breathtaking one was the cathedral in &nbsp;Milan. I didn’t know what to expect when I turned the corner and faced &nbsp;the marvelous gothic structure. I gasped. It literally took my breath &nbsp;away.</p> <p>I got to tour the inside. It was marvelous.</p> <p><a href="https://giselleaguiar.com/2021/09/13/1-kings-6-solomons-massive-temple-is-blah-compared-to-the-heavenly-one-that-awaits-us/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Yesterday, &nbsp;we compared the mobile tabernacle that housed the Ark of the Covenant, &nbsp;while the Israelites were traveling for 40 years in wilderness, to the &nbsp;more permanent temple Solomon built.</a> Alas, does God need or want such extravagance? Keep that thought in mind as we go through this next chapter.
