2023 WWC: Pauw elated by Ireland’s performance against Super Falcons

<p>Republic of Ireland coach, Vera Pauw says they will leave the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with their heads high following a battling 0-0 draw against Nigeria.</p>, <p>The Girls in Green put up an impressive display against the nine-time African champions at the Brisbane Stadium on Monday.</p>, <p>The European champions have nothing but pride to play for against the Super Falcons having lost their opening two games against Australia and Canada.</p>, <p>Pauw’s side was the better side for most of the game even though they couldn’t breach the Super Falcons’ defence.</p>, <p>The English woman was delighted with the performance against Nigeria and in the previous games.</p>, <p>“It’s a fantastic feeling. We were in control, we’ve created chances. We need to get there to score, we have done that so much better than the early games. I think we can be really proud, we have had equal games against the top 10 nations,” she was quoted by FIFA.com.</p>, <p>“Those players came out as very good players, they come out as world stars. They will get more contracts and opportunities and the next generation can step in.”</p>, <p>It was Ireland’s first appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.</p>
