On "EWTN News Nightly" tonight: Pope Francis and President Joe Biden met at the Vatican ahead of the summit of G20 leaders in Rome. EWTN Vatican Bureau Chief, Andreas Thonhauser, joins to share what the purpose of the meeting was. The president told reporters, the Pope “was happy I was a good Catholic” and added that the Pope told him he should keep receiving Holy Communion. The president’s support for abortion policy wholly contradicts Church teaching on protecting the most vulnerable among us. Today was not the first time a US president has met a pope. The tradition began in 1919 when Woodrow Wilson became the first US president to meet with a pope. Former Ambassador to the Holy See and Former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Jim Nicholson, joins to share the significance of presidents meeting with popes, and whether any president-pope meetings have stood out. On another note, the Diocese of Grand Falls in Canada has instated a vaccine mandate for parishioners. DC Correspondent for Catholic News Agency, Christine Rousselle, joins to tell us about why the diocese in Canada decided to implement the mandate.
